Following the results of the mini-grants competition announced in February 2021, the European Union project "Open Communities - Open Media" supported eight project initiatives from seven regions of the Kyrgyz Republic.
The mini-grant component of the project is aimed at strengthening intersectoral dialogue that promotes the free exchange of ideas, opinions and information, and allows members of society to form their own opinions on issues of public interest.
The main goal of the competition is to encourage local activists to promote and protect human rights, especially freedom of speech and expression.
The mini-grants competition approved initiatives by civil society organizations in partnership with community councils and journalists.
Competition winners with their project initiatives:
- PO "Naryn Center for Economic Development". The project “Building the members capacity of the IOS network of Naryn region and cooperation with the media” is aimed at strengthening the work of network members in social media and interaction with the media and in-depth training of project proposals (fundraising).
- PF “Fund for Global Changes” - project “The Rights of Migrant Children to a Decent Future”. The project is aimed at helping to reduce violence against children and respecting the rights of children of labor migrants left without parental care by increasing the capacity of the IOS, RNU(Russian nationwide union) and raising the level of awareness of the local population of Naryn and At-Bashy districts on the existing mechanisms for ensuring and protecting children's rights and introducing a public monitoring mechanism of the conditions of migrants children.
- “Association of Women's Communities of Issyk-Kul” - project “Reducing the vulnerability of migrants in partnership in the Issyk-Kul region”. The project aims to disseminate best practices and innovative approaches to addressing issues of protecting the rights and vulnerability of migrants and their family members in Karakol city in partnership between the Karakol City Public Council (CPC) on migration, the mayor's office and independent journalists of the Issyk-Kul region.
- PO "Integration of Communities" - the project of Opening the Media Center "El-unu". The project is aimed at uniting and creating a space on the basis of which members of the IOS will work together with young novice journalists, bloggers and activists who have a single conceptual base and a set of competencies in working with the media space.
- PO "Rural Life" - the project "Media resource as a tool to improve the quality of citizens life." The project aims to promote more active participation of citizens in decision-making processes at the local level through the development of multilateral cooperation.
- PF "Insan-Leilek" - the project "Media technologies in the development and promotion of positive communications for the four IOS on migration issues in the Batken region." The project aims to develop a Media Plan for an information and communication strategy, taking into account the challenges after the COVID-19 pandemic and the problems associated with children of migrants and women migrants for 2021 - 2025. for the pilot four IOS.
- PO "Union of Unity" - the project "Protection of human rights in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and the media in the Talas region." The project is aimed at improving intersectoral dialogue, facilitating the free exchange of ideas, opinions and information for members of the public to form free opinions on issues of public importance in Talas and Talas region.
- PO "AIR Support" - project "Raising the legal literacy of rural women". The project is aimed at reducing the distrust of residents to human rights, judicial and law enforcement agencies. Encourage more active citizen participation in public activities for the protection of the rights of women and girls and in local decision-making processes.
