Project "Open Communities – Open Media"

The Open Communities - Open Media Project, funded by the European Union and implemented by the Gustav-Stresemann-Institute e.V. in partnership with the Public Fund "Resource Center for the elder people" (RCE / Kyrgyzstan), ProNGO! e.V. (Germany) and the Public Organization "Generation XXI" (Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan) in 2021 continues to conduct a series of trainings and seminars for representatives of small public councils and the media of the Kyrgyz Republic. The training program was developed jointly by experts in the field of human rights, journalism and PR.

1. Chui region:

The trainings were held in the city of Bishkek on February 25-26, 2021. 30 people took part, including 6 men, 24 women. The first day of the training was held on the topic “The concept of human rights and international approaches to equality and non-discrimination” with the participation of experts Yulia Votslav and Erkin Isakulov.

Trainers Marat Tokoev, Tagzhana Aidaralieva conducted the second day of the training course on the topic “Effective interaction between NGOs and the media. Media literacy and work in social media”.

The program covered the concepts of democracy, rule of law, classification and types of human rights, as well as discrimination.

During the meeting, practical exercises with participants and individual consultations were organized.

In order to provide feedback and study the productivity of the event, questionnaires were developed for participants, which describe suggestions and comments on the organization and relevance of the topics of the seminar. In addition, a document "Action Plan" was prepared, in which each participant shared in detail with the given plan of further activities based on the knowledge gained.

    

 

2. Osh region:

 Educational trainings were held in the city of Osh on March 16-17, 2021. 30 people took part, including 7 men, 23 women. The first and second days of the training were held in the format of interactive team games with the participants. According to the analysis based on the results of the completed questionnaire and the document “Action plan of the previous training”, the experts proposed new tools for interacting with the participants in the form of practical exercises.

Journalists and activists gained knowledge on the topics “How to prepare for an interview? How do NGOs and the media interact? What is a complex communication strategy and why is it important?“.

         

    

 

3. Jalal-Abad region:

The trainings were held in the city of Jalal-Abad on April 20-21, 2021. 30 people took part, including 16 men, 14 women. Three experts Yulia Votslava, Erkin Isakulov and Akylbek Tashbulatov read the topic “The concept of human rights and international approaches to the issues of equality and non-discrimination”.

Media experts Marat Tokoev and Tagzhana Aidaralieva discussed the topic “Effective interaction between NGOs and the media. Media literacy and work in social media”. The training course was conducted in a free question-answer format. The invited trainers freely conveyed materials to the audience in Kyrgyz and Russian. The program was dynamic and informative.

               

    

 

4. Talas region:

The trainings were held in the city of Talas on May 25-26, 2021. 30 people took part, including 10 men, 20 women.

The coaching staff worked in a team of two. In the first line-up, Yulia Votslava, Erkin Isakulov read the main topics to the participants:

  • Restriction of human rights,
  • Derogation from obligations,
  • The concept of discrimination, etc.

Media experts Tagzhana Aidaralieva and Marat Tokoev read the following topics:

  • What is a good press release and why is it needed?
  • Effective work in the media
  • What is a complex communication strategy and why is it important?

    

               

 

5. Naryn region:

In the city of Naryn, trainings were held on June 15-16, 2021. 31 people took part, including 13 men, 18 women.

Educational trainings were organized for journalists and members of small public councils. The participants gained knowledge in the field of human rights and media literacy. The workshops were dynamic with practical exercises and group work.

    

      

 

6. Batken region:

On July 06-07, 2021, trainings were held in the city of Batken, which were specially formed for the Batken region. 33 people took part, including 13 men, 20 women.

Trainings on “Features of the work of mass media in border areas. Digital hygiene” and "The right to access information and expression" were held. The trainings were dynamic with practical exercises and group work.

                                                    

        

 

7. Issyk-Kul region:

July 27-28, 2021 trainings were held in the city of Karakol, Issyk-Kul region with the participation of trainers on media literacy and human rights. 4 coaches were invited: Yulia Votslava, Erkin Isakulov, Tagzhana Aidaralieva and Marat Tokoev. The trainers read fluently in Kyrgyz and Russian.

28 people took part, including 8 men, 20 women.

During the training, several methods were used: games, role-playing games, presentations, discussions, independent work of the participants. As a result, the participants received positive feedback on the relevance of the program topics, the professionalism of the coaches, the development of a complex training plan in conjunction with theory and reinforcement of the material, as well as the presence of game moments. In addition, we received many suggestions from participants on subsequent topics, problems such as:

  1. Working with closed institutions, government officials;
  2. New opportunities of technologies for work related to IT;
  3. Financial literacy;
  4. Business planning, etc.
