Project "Open Communities – Open Media"

  • The European Union project "Open Communities - Open Media" during the #COVID19 pandemic and emergencies held a series of online programs and livestream webinars on current topics in the community with the participation of the Ombudsman of the Kyrgyz Republic and representatives of various ministries, psychologists and experienced journalists of the Kyrgyz Republic for the target groups of the project, for beneficiaries, as well as for active users of social networks and the general population.   • On June 09, 2020, a press cafe with representatives of the media community was held in Bishkek. The participants of this event are representatives of state and private mass media. The meeting was moderated by Inga Sikorkaya, Program Director of the School of Peacemaking and Media Technologies in Central Asia.
    During the event, a presentation was made of the Research that was carried out within the framework of the project in January-February 2020. Independent expert, head of the Center for Public Technologies Madeyuev A.N. spoke about the results of the study "Assessment of the level of freedom of speech and expression of the most vulnerable groups in all project regions."
    During the meeting, an interactive discussion took place, where the views of the participants on access to information and its quality were voiced. The project coordinator Svetlana Bashtovenko spoke about the project's activities and upcoming trainings, and a future competition for journalists.
    During the dialogue, new ideas were heard on further strategic steps of the main activities, as well as joint actions in order to obtain high results. The parties noted the initiative to organize such working meetings only positively. 
  • On June 9, in Bishkek city, a briefing meeting with the partners of the project was held. The event was attended by: Project Manager of the Delegation of the European Union in the Kyrgyz Republic - Ayim Bapanova, representatives of international programs funded by the European Union, as well as the main partners - signers of memorandums within the project.
    The project coordinator, Svetlana Bashtovenko, made a presentation to the participants about the project's activities during the period of quarantine and emergencies. In particular, about live broadcasts and webinars held on relevant topics. In addition, the results of the activities of the online headquarters, created by the project with the aim of forming a single information space during an emergency in the regions of the Kyrgyz Republic, tracking incoming information from the regions and building interaction between representatives of state bodies, the media and small public councils, were presented.
    During the meeting, the participants discussed joint cooperation in the upcoming training sessions in the regions, new ideas and proposals and synergy of the projects. A presentation of the study “Assessment of the level of freedom of speech and expression of the most vulnerable groups in all project regions” was organized, after which an interactive discussion and exchange of views took place.
