Project "Open Communities – Open Media"

The project "Open Communities - Open Media", funded by the European Union and implemented by the Gustav-Stresemann-Institute e.V. in partnership with the Public Foundation “The Resource Center for Elderly” (RCE/Kyrgyzstan), ProNGO!e.V. (Germany) and Public Organization Generation XXI (Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan), conducts a series of training sessions and seminars for representatives of Small Public Councils and the mass media of the Kyrgyz Republic. The training program was developed jointly with the Department of Information and Mass Communications and the Association of Television and Radio Organization of the Kyrgyz Republic.

  • On July 01, 2020, in Karakol city, a training was held for members of the Small Public Councils of the Issyk-Kul region on the topic: "Digital literacy in the context of an information pandemic". This training is the first of a series of trainings planned in all regions of the republic within the framework of the European Union project "Open Communities - Open Media". The trainers shared with the participants with the digital tools for working with information and the specifics of working in social networks and instant messengers.
  • On July 02, 2020, in Karakol city of Issyk-Kul region, a training was held for journalists and bloggers on the topic: "Digital literacy in the context of an information pandemic." The training included information:
    - about the work of the media in the context of an information pandemic;
    - about work in social networks and messengers;
    - about a fake pandemic and copyright.
    This training was organized within the framework of the project and is aimed at increasing the potential of media representatives in creating quality content in the regions.
  • On September 15, 2020, a training was held in the city of Talas for representatives of the mass media and members of the Small Public Council of Talas Oblast. The topic of the training was dedicated to digital literacy in the context of an information pandemic. The coaching staff shared with the participants with the information about the work of social media in the context of an information pandemic, about the peculiarities of working in social networks and messengers, about fakes and methods of information verification and copyright. In the course of practical work, the participants were able to sort out their pages and accounts in social networks in practice and get recommendations from specialists.
  • On September 18, a training session for members of the Small Public Councils of Naryn Oblast is taking place. The training was held in the format of theoretical and practical lessons. The program consists of several areas of topics such as how to make requests correctly to the public authorities, how to search and check information on the I-net, the work with the mass media in the context of an information pandemic, the basic rules of etiquette in social networks, digital hygiene and fake stream. Participants receive advice during training, as well as online, following the event.

  • On September 19, an educational training was organized for journalists in the Naryn region. Representatives of the regional Naryn multimedia center, the Association of Community Media and other independent correspondents and young bloggers took part. The participants of the training, together with the trainer, were engaged in practical exercises using smartphones and other devices, created joint groups and opened pages on social networks (Facebook, Instagram, etc.). Moreover, in order to consolidate theoretical knowledge, a separate time was allocated for consultations, suggestions and questions from participants. During the training, the journalists of the Naryn region increased their knowledge of the digital footprint, digital law and the correct maintenance of a personal page on social networks, the possibilities of the Internet Google.
  • On September 23, the training “Digital literacy in the context of an information pandemic” was held for media representatives in Jalal-Abad region. The participants: journalists from the regional multimedia center, independent correspondents and young bloggers. The main topics of the training are devoted to digital legal issues, the specifics of working in social networks and messengers, the work of the media in new information conditions.

More than 150 journalists and members of the SPCs took part in the trainings. The training participants noted the relevance of the trainings. Some active journalist participants wanted even more practical information. In September 2019. In the regional media, the process of switching to the online format of work began, since that moment, work is underway to reorganize the regional state media - now state newspapers, radio and television are united into regional media centers, and newspapers are gradually moving to the online format and are working on content for regional sites.
